Christmas is around the corner and this year, it will be very different for us. Last week, we purchased our tree, which is a step up from the one they use in Charlie Brown’s Christmas. Yesterday, I began making the ornaments for the tree. This year, every ornament on the tree will be handmade.
We also won’t be celebrating Christmas morning with tons of presents. Honestly, there’s very few things that you can buy here that will help you check off the Christmas list of a teen and a tween. No presents can be shipped via mail because we probably wouldn’t get them, and what might come from the states will come after Christmas has come and gone.
But, it will be okay:) We’re learning to shift our focus a little from the way things used to be. That’s one reason why I’ve decided to take the “21-Days to a Hunger Free (and Healthy) Holiday!” with the Peak 313 blog. I encourage you to join too so that you can take your focus off the consumerist holiday ideas and focus on what it’s really about – sacrificial giving. God sent Jesus to earth not so we could revel in all the twinkly lights, sparkling ornaments, and perfectly wrapped gifts. He sent him to die, to be a sacrifice for us.
That’s what my focus will be for the next 21 days. As I decide to give up things that I really want, I will remember that’s what God did for me. His sacrificial gift can never be repaid, but I choose everyday to make a sacrifice that will benefit someone else, thus becoming more like Him.
If you want to join me in the challenge, you can check it out here. Please let me know if you do, so we can keep each other accountable as well as encourage one another. Happy holidays!
